Off-duty cop allegedly flipped because the girls poked fun at a costume one of his pals was wearing.
A POLICEMAN has been arrested over claims he attacked two women in a kebab shop in a fight over a fancy dress outfit.
The off-duty cop was on a night out with a group of officers when he allegedly flipped because the girls poked fun at a costume one of his pals was wearing. It is claimed he punched one of the women in the face, knocking her to the ground.
His colleagues stepped in to stop the brawl but the officer, who has not been named, was later held on suspicion of assault and suspended. The group, from Greater Manchester police, had been at a fundraiser for a fellow policeman who is suffering from motor neurone disease when they visited the Pizza King takeaway in Wigan at 1.40am on Thursday.
This week a worker at Pizza King confirmed there had been a scuffle. He said: “There were about 20 people in here, it was very busy. There was some trouble, some fighting. The police came the other day and took the CCTV away.”
Yesterday a police spokesman confirmed the officer had been suspended.
He added: “Greater Manchester police are currently investigating a complaint that a serving officer assaulted a woman at a takeaway in Wigan. He was off-duty at the time.”
