A West Midlands Police officer has resigned from the force after admitting withdrawing a harassment victim’s statement without her knowledge.
Stuart Williams (37) was a PC with the force who investigated the woman’s allegations that she was being harassed by her ex-partner.
He falsified documents in an attempt to prove he was working as he had been tasked.
Williams eventually produced what he claimed was a statement from the victim, dropping the complaint. He falsified her signature. His conduct was revealed when the victim made another harassment complaint.
The PC was charged with forgery after an IPCC investigation and summonsed to attend court. He pleaded guilty on the day a trial was due to start at Coventry Crown Court.
Williams was given a four-month suspended prison sentence and fined £2,400.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “The Force’s Professional Standards Department works closely with the CPS and the IPCC.
“The Force will fully investigate any complaint and take any necessary action against an officer involved if the complaint is upheld.
“The officer in question has tendered his resignation which has been accepted with immediate effect.”
